Possibly the last known type of paraffin fuelled lamp to be manufactured in quantity, this Dorman Smith dispensed with the traditional full width curved top and instead relied upon the inner cowl to attach the hook, in an effort to reduce costs. Sadly the construction is not too good with the door fixed at an odd angle. Dorman Smith plastic coated their lamps, rather than using paint. Unfortunately once the plastic coating is damaged, water ingress leads to rapid rusting causing the coating to flake off. A plate is pop rivetted to the door and is marked "SWEB" - South Western Electricity Board, The door is also stamped "PARKER".
